Mama Sheila Foundation was created with a simple but powerful belief: when we invest in young people, we change more than individual lives—we strengthen families, transform communities, and create generational change.
Our work is centered on creating meaningful opportunities for youth to develop the confidence, knowledge, skills, relationships, and resilience they need to navigate life and build a better future.
We are not here simply to identify problems.
We are here to create pathways forward.
THE NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY
Too many young people are navigating life without the resources, mentorship, stability, and structured support they need to reach their full potential.
Economic hardship, limited access to opportunity, academic challenges, exposure to violence, bullying, social pressures, mental and emotional struggles, and a lack of positive guidance can dramatically affect a young person’s future.
For some families, these barriers are not temporary. They are part of a cycle that can continue from one generation to the next.
When young people don’t have access to positive opportunities, they can become more vulnerable to the very circumstances we are trying to prevent.
We believe our community cannot afford to wait until a young person is in crisis before we show up.
Prevention must begin early.
Support must be consistent.
Opportunity must be intentional.
And our young people must know that their circumstances do not determine their destiny.

Mama Sheila Foundation is committed to empowering youth through education, mentorship, creativity, wellness, prevention, physical development, career preparation, and community engagement.
We create programs and opportunities designed to help young people recognize their value, develop their abilities, make positive decisions, and build a vision for their future.
Our approach addresses the whole person.
Because a young person may need academic support and mentorship.
They may need a safe place to belong.
They may need help managing emotions.
They may need an outlet for creativity.
They may need access to sports and healthy activities.

Through creative experiences, youth can explore their talents, discover their voice, develop new skills, and express themselves in healthy and meaningful ways.

MENTORSHIP
SOMETIMES ONE PERSON CAN CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF A LIFE.
Young people need people who will show up.
They need positive examples, honest conversations, encouragement, accountability, and someone willing to see potential in them—even when they may not yet see it in themselves.

MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS
A STRONG FUTURE BEGINS WITH A HEALTHY MIND.
Young people are carrying pressures that can affect their confidence, relationships, decisions, education, and outlook on life.
Our mental health and wellness initiatives promote emotional wellness, resilience, self-awareness, healthy coping strategies, confidence, positive decision-making, and access to appropriate support.
We want young people to understand that their emotions matter, their experiences matter, and asking for help is not a weakness.
We care about the person behind the struggle—not just the behavior we see.
RECIDIVISM PREVENTION
YOUR PAST DOES NOT HAVE TO DECIDE YOUR FUTURE.
We believe young people deserve opportunities to make different choices and create different outcomes.
Our recidivism prevention efforts focus on reducing the circumstances that can contribute to repeated involvement with the justice system by connecting youth with mentorship, accountability, education, life skills, career preparation, positive relationships, and constructive opportunities.
We focus on restoration, responsibility, growth, and pathways forward.
A mistake does not have to become an identity. A past decision does not have to become a life sentence.
TUTORING & EDUCATION
EDUCATION OPENS DOORS. WE HELP YOUNG PEOPLE WALK THROUGH THEM.
Academic challenges can affect a young person’s confidence and future opportunities.
Our tutoring and education initiatives provide academic assistance, homework support, educational enrichment, and encouragement to help youth strengthen their skills and take greater ownership of their education.
We don’t just want young people to pass. We want them to believe they can excel.
BULLYING PREVENTION
EVERY YOUNG PERSON DESERVES TO FEEL SAFE, SEEN, AND VALUED.
No child should have to face school, community, or social environments feeling afraid, isolated, humiliated, or powerless.
Our bullying prevention initiatives promote respect, empathy, accountability, communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and positive peer interactions.
We work to create environments where young people understand the impact of their actions and where those experiencing bullying know they are not alone.

FITNESS & SPORTS

Fitness and sports can teach lessons that extend far beyond the playing field.
Our programs encourage physical activity, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, discipline, perseverance, leadership, accountability, and confidence.

JOB READINESS & CAREER DEVELOPMENT

A young person’s future becomes more attainable when they have access to knowledge, skills, preparation, experience, and opportunity.
Our job readiness and career development initiatives help youth prepare for life beyond the classroom through career exploration, professional development, communication, workplace expectations, goal-setting, interview preparation, resume preparation, and leadership development.
We want young people prepared not simply to get a job—but to build a future.
GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION
PROTECTING LIVES. INTERRUPTING CYCLES. CREATING ALTERNATIVES.
Gun violence can change a family forever and leave lasting consequences throughout a community.
Our gun violence prevention efforts focus on prevention, education, mentorship, conflict resolution, positive decision-making, community engagement, and meaningful alternatives to violence.
We believe prevention begins before the crisis.
It begins by creating relationships.
It begins by giving young people positive outlets.
It begins by helping them understand consequences.
It begins by showing them that their lives have value and that they have a future worth protecting.
